The Telegraph independent school league table is created using data supplied by the Independent Schools Council (ISC). Many schools boycott the tables, which means that not every school is listed.
The GCSE and IGCSE results table ranks almost 370 fee-paying schools by the proportion of entries graded A*/A, schools with less than 25 candidates have not been included. A separate table for state school GCSE results was published last week.
Figures published on GCSE Results Day revealed that the number of top grades awarded dropped for the fourth year in a row to 6.6 per cent of pupils getting A* - down from 7.3 per cent in 2012.
However, the number of pupils gaining a C or above (considered a "good pass") rose, with almost seven in 10 (68.8 per cent) entries awarded A*-C, up 0.2 per cent on last year.
In other positive news, the gender gap narrowed slightly, with 73.1 per cent of girls' entries awarded at least a C, compared to 64.7 per cent of boys'.
In data published by the Independent Schools Council, it was revealed that more than four in every 10 exam entries are now for IGCSE rather than GCSE, as the exam continues to grow in popularity.
Furthermore, nearly two thirds of entries by independent school pupils were awarded A* and A grades, compared to 21 per cent nationally.
